The Walden Glove Signature Mallet is a purpose-built shaping tool created to form better pockets, set clean hinges, and guide leather into its proper shape. Our original teardrop profile is carefully balanced for control, consistency, and long-term use in the workshop.

Inspired by the traditional mallets used in glove shops and service departments across Japan, this heavyweight, one-piece design delivers precise impact where structure is required and smooth, rolling pressure where the glove needs to move.

DESIGNED TO SHAPE

Flat Base
The flat striking surface allows straight-down impact for spotting pockets and setting hinges with accuracy and repeatability. It also allows the mallet to stand upright on the workbench between uses.

Teardrop Barrel
The rounded barrel rolls and expands the palm, allowing the glove to wrap naturally around the mallet to form clean, well-defined pockets with proper depth and curvature — particularly effective on catcher’s mitts.

WHY IT WORKS

The Signature Mallet is designed specifically for glove shaping — not adapted from another tool. Every surface has a purpose, allowing one mallet to handle multiple shaping tasks efficiently while preserving the integrity of the leather.

MATERIALS & VARIANTS

Signature Red Oak

Selected for its strength, character, and traditional workshop feel, Red Oak offers a slightly more forgiving impact with excellent feedback. Its open, even grain develops a natural patina over time, giving the mallet a well-used, craftsman’s look as it ages.

Red Oak accepts stain and varnish beautifully, allowing the grain to show through with a distinctive zebra-like pattern that adds visual depth and warmth.

Hard Maple

Hard Maple is denser and harder, with a tighter grain structure. Its smooth, closed grain is naturally water resistant and resistant to burrs, making it ideal for heavier use and environments where moisture is present.

This option is preferred for stiffer leathers and catcher’s mitts where precision and durability are priorities.
