FAQ

GENERAL

What is Walden Glove?
Walden Glove is a premium glove break in service and tools company specializing in traditional Japanese Yumomi methods. We focus on shaping high-performance pockets while preserving the integrity of the leather.

What makes Walden Glove different?
We don’t rush or damage gloves with aggressive methods. Our process builds a functional, game-ready shape while maintaining long-term structure, durability, and performance.

BREAK-IN SERVICE

What is the Yumomi break-in process?
Yumomi is a traditional Japanese method that uses controlled water treatment, hand shaping, and precision mallet work to form the glove naturally—without compromising the leather.

How broken in will my glove be when I receive it?
Your glove will arrive approximately 80% broken in— shaped per your instructions, with a defined pocket and hinges, but still allowing it to form to your hand during use. Then it's up to you with the rest of the shaping and form.

Can you fix or reshape a glove I already broke in?
Yes. We specialize in reshaping gloves, correcting poor break in's, and rebuilding pocket structure—even from flat or improperly formed gloves.

Do you use steam?
We primarily use water-based Yumomi techniques. Steam may be used selectively in short intervals depending on the glove, but never as a one-size-fits-all solution.

Can I request a specific break-in style?
Absolutely. Common requests include:

- Thumb-to-pinky or traditional close

- Deep or shallow pocket

- Single hinge or dual hinge

- Position-specific shaping (infield, outfield, catcher)

Turnaround begins once your glove is received at our facility.

How is my glove returned?
We ship via UPS Ground or USPS Priority with tracking provided upon completion.

GLOVE CARE

Will the break in damage my glove?
No. Our process is designed to preserve leather integrity and extend the life of your glove.

Do you condition the glove?
Yes. Each glove is lightly conditioned and finished to enhance feel, flexibility, and longevity—without over-softening.

Will my glove lose its shape over time?
Not if properly maintained. Our structured break-in helps the glove hold its shape longer than traditional methods.

WALDEN GLOVE TOOLS

What are Walden Glove tools used for?
Our tools are designed for:

- Pocket formation

- Hinge setting

- Leather softening and shaping

- Ongoing glove maintenance

What makes your tools different?
Each tool is handcrafted in the USA using premium hardwoods like Hard Maple and Red Oak, designed for balance, durability, and precise impact.

Do I need tools if I use your service?
Not necessarily—but tools are ideal for maintaining your glove and making small adjustments over time.

PRODUCTS & COMPATIBILITY

What gloves do you work on?

- Rawlings

…and custom or Japanese imports.

Do you work on catcher’s mitts?

ORDERING

How do I send my glove in?
Ship your glove to our facility with your order confirmation. We recommend including additional notes about your preferred break in style.

Can I include special instructions?
Yes—detailed instructions are encouraged and help us dial in your exact preference. You can leave them at the end of your purchase.

Do you accept bulk or team orders?
Yes. Contact us directly for team, organization, or retail partnerships.

FINAL RESULT

Will my glove be game-ready?
No—your glove will be ready to play catch immediately, with a start on the shape and form. 80% break in is our WG standard, but you can always request more work on it. We break the glove in to how you want.

Will it feel stiff or soft?
Balanced. Structured where it needs to hold shape, and flexible where it needs to close naturally. It may feel different than anything you've used before, but that's because it's tailored to meet in the middle of your custom instructions as well as the designed form and function of the glove.
